The primary objective of the ImpacTeen Tracking the Media and Policy Impacts of State-level Tobacco Control: SmokeLess States Evaluation is to evaluate the impact of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s SmokeLess States program on state-level tobacco control efforts. In addition to employing tobacco policy data compiled as part of the ImpacTeen project, the SmokeLess States Evaluation uses three new, databases collected specifically for the evaluation: media coverage of tobacco policy and other tobacco related issues; state-level tobacco related legislation; and “strength of tobacco control” efforts. These databases build upon comparable efforts begun as part of the National Cancer Institute’s evaluation of the American Stop Smoking Intervention Study for Cancer Prevention (ASSIST).
